What does Savi do?
Savi is an industry leader in student loan and education benefits, empowering people to save money on student loans and explore new education options through its AI-enabled platform and one-on-one expert support.
We are like a tax-prep software for student loans. We connect borrowers to free federal programs that allow them to reduce their monthly payments and explore forgiveness options. Our algorithm uses information that borrowers provide to maximize their benefits and streamline the enrollment process.

How does Savi’s service work?
We've created an AI-enabled platform that helps employees find the best repayment or forgiveness plan, save for retirement through Secure 2.0 matching, and discover new education plans, such as tuition reimbursement. We simply ask borrowers a few questions, and our platform does all the heavy lifting.
For student debt relief, our platform scans more than 150 public and private forgiveness and repayment plans, calculates monthly savings or total forgiveness amount, automates the enrollment process, and monitors any new updates throughout the course of a loan.
Does Savi cost money?
We primarily work directly with partners who provide student loan and education benefits to their employees, clients, and members. However, we believe everyone should have access to student loan solutions. We work with several nonprofit community partners where borrowers can access Savi’s platform and 1:1 support at no cost. If you need immediate assistance and have questions related to student loans, you can use our tool, Student Loan Assistant by Savi on ChatGPT. Borrowers can find repayment plans, forgiveness options, and savings estimates instantly.
How does Savi help me?
Borrowers who use Savi can save $38,980 over their lifetime.*
We developed a unique algorithm that reviews student loan options and summarizes repayment options. Whether that's saving as much as possible per month or paying the lowest total amount over time, the decision is ultimately up to the borrower.
If borrowers decide to move forward with a program, Savi helps with the enrollment process, eliminating the tedious paperwork process. We are not financial advisors, but Savi's goal is to make it as easy as possible for borrowers to make the best decision.
*Users who created an account on Savi between October 1, 2023, and December 31, 2023, and used Savi to find a monthly payment reduction, saw an average lower payment of $187 per month and $38,980 in lifetime savings with income-based repayment plans and applicable relief options. Savings may vary, and some may not see savings.
Who are the people behind Savi?
Savi was started as a social-impact public benefit company. The people behind it are student loan experts, advocates, and borrowers who have been fighting for many years to improve the broken student loan system. We realized that the 42+ million borrowers [source] needed better and more personalized information about how to manage and repay their student debt. That’s why we created Savi to help borrowers take advantage of valuable federal programs, such as income-based repayment or loan forgiveness, which can be complicated and have been underutilized as a result. The folks behind Savi also know that there are a lot of bad actors in the student loan industry, which is why we value trust with borrowers. You can learn more about the people behind Savi here.
When was Savi founded?
Savi was founded in 2017 by longtime student loan experts and advocates Aaron Smith and Tobin Van Ostern.
What is the benefit ROI for partners and borrowers who use Savi?
One partner found that for every $1 spent on Savi, an employee receives $223 in debt forgiveness.
What is Savi’s success rate in helping borrowers submit their applications for new repayment and forgiveness programs?
More than 98% of submitted federal student loan applications are accepted.
